Jung Joon-young’s Molka Scandal and Kakao Talk Group Members

Molka stands for hidden camera used to film sexual acts, body parts, or private things of mainly female victims without their consent. Korea is well known for its Molka websites, which contain and provide videos or images of ordinary people while doing sexual activities. Jung Joon-young’s involvement in a Molka scandal started to unravel when Big Bang’s Seungri was entangled in a scandal related to a night club, namely the Burning Sun. A woman was allegedly being sexually harassed inside the night club. Seungri previously participated in the opening of the club and people thought that he is the owner of the club. Seungri was also charged for providing prostitution services for prospective investors. Police questioned him. Aside from the sexual harassment incident conducted by an employee of Burning Sun, the solicitation charges, Seungri was also investigated for Burning Sun’s tax evasion scandal. SBS’ funE released a Kakao Talk chatroom between Seungri and several other singers and businessman. Inside the Kakao Talk group, members shared camera footage and photos made by hidden cameras. Aside from Seungri and CEO of Yuri Holdings, Yoo Insuk, two male singers with surnames Jung and Choi, two ordinary Korean citizens, and anonymous Mr. Kim, Seungri’s business acquaintance, were members of the Kakao Talk group. Later, SBS’ 8 O’Clock News reported that there was another chatroom where members shared and watched sexual act footage. Allegedly, Seungri, singer Jung Joon-young, Ex-Highlight’s Yong Jun-hyung, ex-FT Island’s Choi Jong-hoon, Ex CNBLUE’s Lee Jong-hyun were members of the chatroom. Jung Joon-young admitted having filmed himself having sex with more than 10 women in 2015 and 2016. He shared the footage through a chatroom messenger. In 2019, Jung Joon-young admitted having filmed the sexual act without the women’s consent. He further added that he didn’t feel guilty while filming the act. Throughout his life, he will regret his immoral, illegal and criminal behavior. He will cooperate during police investigation and he will accept the punishment sentenced to him in the future.

Ex-FT Island’s Choi Jong-hoon

Choi Jong-hoon was arrested for allegations of gang rape on May 9th, 2019. He was suspected to have participated in two gang rapes, Hongcheon and Daegu in 2016. He admitted to drinking alcohol with a woman but denied having sex with her. Previously, he was accused of bribing a high ranking police officer to cover his drunken driving case. Aside from gang rape and cop bribing, he was also accused of secretly filming sexual acts without the consent of his partner and sharing the footage in chat groups. Choi Jong-hoon’s label agency, FNC, confirmed the drunken driving case but denied any involvement with the police officer. On March 13th, 2019, FT Island fans insisted the agency to remove Choi Jong-hoon from the group. As the leader of FT Island, he failed to maintain a good image and became a disgrace to the group. Later, FNC decided to stop all FT Island activities and asked Choi Jong-hoon to cooperate with the police investigation. However, Choi denied the gang rape allegations but admitted that on the day of the incident, he was with the victim.

Ex-CNBLUE’s Lee Jong-hyun

On March 15th, 2019, Lee Jong-hyun admitted that he has seen the videos sent by Jung Joon-young to their Kakao Talk chat room. Initially, Lee denied the accusations, but after an SBS news reporter revealed that he was a member of the chat room and had seen the videos, he finally admitted the incident. His agency, FNC Entertainment, stated that Lee was regretful for the incident and will reflect upon the incident to be a better person. However, Lee and his agency didn’t mention any news about his departure from CNBLUE. Lee Jong-hyun announced his departure from CNBLUE on August 28th, 2019, after another scandal with a sexy YouTuber emerged. He sent flirty messages to a sexy YouTuber and the YouTuber revealed his true identity as a member of CNBLUE. After the incident emerged, Lee Jong-hyun finally decided to leave CNBLUE.

Ex- HIGHLIGHT’s Yoon Jun-hyung

On March 14th, 2019, ex-HIGHLIGHT’s Yoon Jun-hyung admitted that he had watched the footage shared by singer Jung Joon-young. Initially, he denied the accusation of his involvement in Jung’s chatroom prompting his agency to issue a statement denying his involvement with the incident. Yoon Jun-hyung was questioned by the police about the incident. He was aware of the incident and stated that the act was unforgiving and that he was regretful and apologetic toward fans. He was sorry for breaking their trust and disappointing them. As a sign of regret and responsibility, he officially left HIGHLIGHT as of March 14th, 2019, and announced his departure through his Instagram account. He also expressed his apology toward other HIGHLIGHT members.

Roy Kim

On April 2nd, 2019, reports surfaced that Roy Kim was allegedly a member of the famous Jung Joon-young chatroom. The report revealed that there were 23 chat rooms related to Jung Joon-young’s case and a total of 16 people were involved. Among the 16 individuals, police sources stated that 13 people will be questioned and seven people have been booked. Regarding Roy Kim, the source said that the police will question Roy Kim. Roy Kim’s agency, Stone Music Entertainment, stated that he is currently studying in the USA and that they haven’t heard any news from him yet. The following day, a past clip of Roy Kim and Jung’s friendship surfaced on the internet. In the clip, Roy Kim’s parent had previously warned him to stay away from Jung Joon-young. However, Roy Kim said that even though he was rebellious, Jung was not a bad person. On April 4th, 2019, Roy Kim was arrested by the Seoul Metro Police and charged with sharing sexual act images in a group chat. At the time of the arrest, Roy Kim was a student at Georgetown University, majoring in Sociology. On April 11th, 2019, Roy Kim stated that he apologized for his conduct and would follow the police investigation. Georgetown University didn’t release any statement and hasn’t taken any action regarding Roy Kim’s arrest and involvement in sexual misconduct.

Eddy Kim

On April 4th, 2019, MBC’s Newsdesk revealed that Eddy Kim was another member of Jung Joon-young’s chatroom. His agency, Mystic Entertainment confirmed the news and was in the process of checking with Eddy Kim. Later that day, a clip from MBC’s I Live Alone surfaced on the internet. Jung Joon-young was a cast member of the show and he introduced his friends, Eddy Kim and Roy Kim. He said that he wanted to date a girl, go out and drink beer together. He urged his friends to start dating so he could steal the girls from his friends. Eddy Kim replied to him and said that if he met a girl who knew Jung Joon-young, he will delete her contact information. From Eddy Kim’s comment, it seemed that Jung has a bad record with women. Rumored-Zico After Jung Joon-young’s hidden camera allegation surfaced, old footage of Zico and Jung-Joon-young’s appearance on MBC’s Radio Star was brought back by netizens. Zico said that other than his normal phone, Jung Joon-young owned another phone, a golden phone, which he used only for Kakao Talk messaging. Zico scrolled through Jung Joon-young’s contacts and found many people on the list. He added that the contact information in the phone was like a pokemon collection. Due to his confession, netizens suspected that the golden phone was the phone that Jung had been using for sharing hidden camera footage. Based on the police investigation, Zico wasn’t a member of the unpleasant Kakao Talk chatroom. On March 13th, 2019, through his Instagram account, Zico wrote that the golden phone he mentioned on a television program wasn’t related to the Kakao Talk chatroom incident. He added that the golden phone contained only contact information and that Zico hasn’t contacted Jung Joon-young in a long time. In the end, he wrote that he will take legal action against any person spreading malicious comments or spreading untrue rumors. On September 30th, 2019, through his new album, THINKING part 1, Zico mentioned the controversies about his statement regarding Jung’s golden phone. In the lyrics of one of his tracks, he said that he has never seen a video like that and he swears to god about it.

Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon’s Involvement in Gang Rape Allegations

On March 20th, 2016, Jung Joon-young, Choi Jong-hoon and three other men allegedly brought a young woman to a hotel in Daegu, Korea. The woman had a drink with Jung, Choi and other men after a fan signing event. However, she lost consciousness after drinking with the men and the next morning she woke up naked in a hotel bedroom with Choi Jong-hoon lying close to her side. While gathering her consciousness, the men teased her and asked her to find her underwear and had sex. After regaining full consciousness, she went out of the room without knowing what had happened to her. After Jung Joon-young’s hidden camera scandal surfaced, she contacted her lawyer in order to find out whether she was a victim and among the girls being filmed secretly. Her lawyer was able to find footage of her being raped by a group of men. The filming date and the gang rape incident date were the same. There was also a chat conversation about the gang rape the following day. On July 16th, 2019, the first official trial for the case, Choi denied the raping accusation but admitted that he met the woman in March 2016. According to his lawyer, Choi met the woman on the veranda and said that the woman was conscious and wasn’t in the state of under resistance. Choi denied that there was sexual intercourse between him and the woman. However, his statement was slightly different from Jung Joon-young’s statement. Jung said that there was sexual intercourse but it was under her consent and she wasn’t unable to resist.

Latest Updates on the Trial

On September 23rd, 2019, Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon faced the sixth trial of their hidden camera and gang rape incident. Earlier this year, Jung Joon-young admitted having filmed his sexual acts with at least 10 women and shared the footage in chat groups. In May 2019, he pleaded guilty for all charges during a retrial for the case. Jung Joon-young was charged with a total of 11 cases of non-consent filming and sharing sexual content material. He wanted to reach a settlement with all victims to avoid serving jail time. Choi Jong-hoon was charged for participation in the messenger group and for group raping a woman in March 2016.
